No Place Like Home Health, LLC: Hindsight is 20/20

The other day I was asked what I would have done differently when we opened up
No Place Like Home Health. You hear all the time that hindsight is 20/20.

Did that apply to us? You bet it did…

No Place Like Home Health, LLC: Hind Site is 20/20 Business Plan

For those of you that have gotten to know me over the years or maybe we just have met with No Place Like Home Health, I always try to keep it real.  For me, I have made a few mistakes along the way with the business.  To keep it real you have to own up to your mistakes.  More importantly, learn from the mistakes and do not make them again.

First and foremost, was not understanding the time commitment to promote and get the word out there about our business.  You have probably heard in the past that you have to put your complete energy into a business that you are running.  I can say that without 1000% time and attention there is no way to properly get a business off the ground and running properly.  Well for a while I tried to do two jobs.  My previous job and then my business job(s) of an owner, marketing, administrator, trainer, human resources, webmaster, etc… Yeah, not possible.

So once that realization set in that it was all or nothing, that is when things really took off for No Place Like Home Health.

Secondly, I have to say that whatever comes along in the first part of opening up a new business, never ever stray away from the game plan.  There is a reason why we call it a business plan.  It is the guidance of where you are, where you are going, and how you are going to get there.

On top of the business plan, you should have a marketing plan.

Stick with that plan and do not go outside of that for the first six months.  Knowing what you can spend and where you are going to spend it will help with those impulse decisions that pop up every now and again.  Because when you are new it seems like you are in a candy store when it comes to marketing.

My advice to all is slow down, do not make impulse decisions, and make sure that you stick with your budget.  If you cannot afford something this month, perhaps save and put that money towards it the following month. Otherwise, chalk it up as a cool idea but not the right time for you.
